EAILWAT AUTHORISATION. (Feom Our. Own Coebkspondent.) WELLINGTON, September 29. < The Railways Authorisatioa BjU, introduced today, authorises the following ex* tensions :~Helensville northwards,' an' qx* tension of about 23 miles; Gisbome-Kara&a, an extension of about five mitea and *- quarter; Catlins-Seaward Bush, from Waimahaka on the Seaward Bush branch railway, to connect with the extension of the Catlins River branch railway, as outhorißect by "The Railways Authorisation Act, 1899," via Waimahaka, and Tah'akopa, Valleye »n(J Moat's Saddle; length, about 55 miles. CARRIAGE OF SHEEP DIP. The Poisons Importation atid Carriage. Act Amendment Bill, passed this evening, provides that notwithstanding anything in. the principal act it shall be lawful to import or send to any port or place in New Zealand sheep dip in powder, although containing arsenic oi compound of araenio, "if seourely packed in wooden boxee. A difficulty recently arose regarding importations of sheep dip, and large quantities of Cooper's dip were prevented from being .. landed in New Zealand. . , v JOTTINGS. i'here are 61 Maoris in , the South Wand drawing .okV-age-.jjensions. The Opposition party it) the House hfte arranged for presentations to Messrs Pirani and Hutcheson, who are retiring from active participation in politics at the close of the session. In Mr Pirani's case iho token oi' esteem from the party will take the ' torm of «• gold watch, and Mi- Hutehesou will receive a set of carvers and fish slicers. Miss Allen, daughter of Mr James Allen, will also be the recipient of a presentation from tUe Opposition party on the , eve of her marriage. MR SEDDON'S FUTURE, „>■ There is a persistent rumour here > that Mr Seddon will return to South Africa, after the general election to assume to. a responsible position _ there in a private capacity. Nothing definite, however, is aseertainable on the point.
