ISSUE OE MINING LICENSES. Press Association—B7 Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, September 29. (Received Sept, 30, at 0.56 a.m.) Thirteen thousand five hundred and seventy-two licenses'for" claims were granted in the Pietersburg, and 8895 in the Barberton districts early enough to enable the poorest "to reach their destinations on the 24th. The claims were pegged out at . daybreak. on the 25th. There was no disorder. The happiest results are anticipated from Lord. Milner's tour in the. [Western Transvaal. He invited suggestions, and discussed plans for settlement'with leading burghers, including General Cronje's son and Mr J. L. Vandercnerve, formerly Mining Commissioner at Johannesburg. They showed themselves eager to promote the. prosperity of the country, and expressed general satisfaction at the arrangements for educating the Boer children. (Received Sept. 30, at 1 a.m.) The Times' Capetown correspondent states that the local Boer funds amount to £fi2,788. A.large proportion is being devoted to prisoners of war. Twenty seven thousand' nine hundred' and seventy-live pounds were invested for the Women, and Orphans' Committee during the war. It is reported that it is not necessary to spend the money, inasmuch as women and orphans were cared for. The committee now- say the money will remain invested until the Boer ministers, who have been pro-* minently connected with the committee, rejoin their congregations.
