DUNEDIN COMPETITIONS SOCIETY.

A meeting of the Dunedin Competitions Society, held last evening, was attended by his Worship the Mayor (Mr J. A. Park), president, in the chair, Messrs G. C. Israel, S. Solomon, M. Cohen, D. M. Findlay, T. W. WhiUon, F. C. Liggins, A. C. Ilanlon, C. G. Smeaton, and E. D, Grace. Apologies wore' received from Messrs G. L. Denniston, J.F. Kirby, and the Rev. Cur-zon-Sirrgi'rs. Mr Cohen reported that lie had approached Sir Joseph Ward re the railway concessions and had received a favourable reply. Mr Israel also reported having waited on the local railway authorities, and they had practically decided that these concessions would be allowed to all bona fide competitors. The matter of subscriptions was also discussed, and a Special Committee was appointed feu canvass the town with a view of obtaining subscriptions and donation?. The question of appointing- judges for the competitions was then gone into and discufised at length, and a committee set up to arrange with a professional man in Wellington to judge the musical items. With regard to the literary and oloeutionary , item?, the committee are arranging with ! several well-known gentlemen to judge i these. In consequence of the main hall j -of the Agricultural Building undergoing ; alterations, and a; these are not likely to ; be completed on the dates required by the j society, it was thought advisable to ! thi> Garrison Hall for Saturday, the Bth of ' November, and Monday, the 10th of November. As the entries for these competitions close on tho 30th September it is urged on all j intending competitors to send in their , entries as soon as possible in order to assist ; the committee in arranging the official programme, which is to be published immpdiatcly after the entries close.
