Daily Times Office, Thursday evening. , The amount , of revenue collected at the Duncdin Custom House to-day on goods cleared for consumption was £2703 4-9 Id. ' BREADSTUFFS. ..= There is quite a, lull in the breadsluffs market, and but little business is passing. Prices, however, maintain their high level, and holders show no willingness to sell at below current rated. The general impression prevails that as stocks nre, getting into small compass prices will be well maintained right up to the end of tho season, even though the Commonwealth demand should cease. IMPORT MARKET. No confirmation has bceii received of the reported damage to the new season's currant crop. Cables received here direct from Tatras within the last few days give quotations for the new fruit which indicate a slightly weaker market, and sales have been made to-day at a comparatively low figure. Bond street merchants do not attach a great deal of importance to the rumour, especially in view of the fact that the new fruit must to a large extent have been already harvested. The Greek merchants are known to be partial to sensations of this sort. Only about a month ago a somewhat similar report was received here, but nothing come of it. Locnlly the immediate effect has been to oreato a better demand for the old fruit, stocks of which are by no means heavy, and sales are reported at from Dβ to 3Jd. -■' ■ ■ ■ ■ >-«J* * "" COMMERCIAL CABLEGRAMS. HIDE SALES. , The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report having held their usual fortnightly hide sale on Thursday, 4th inst., when they offered a. fair quantity lo tho usual representative gathering of buyers. Prices do not appear to have altered since last 'quotations to any appreciable extent, although well-flr.yed and Bound hides of full weight, with no blemishes,, were very keenly competed for, and probably brought more than last sale by about one-eighth of a penny.per lb. Prices, however, generally speaking, are good for wellflayed hides, although they are hardly satisfactory to vendors,. who were getting Jd per lb more three weeks ago. They recommend their clients to be as careful as possible in tho get-up of their hides, as well-got-up lots always bring top. prices ruling.at the time; while sloppy, carelesßly-dressed lots are sometimes hard to quit, except st low prices. Their top price on Thursday -was sjjd per lb. Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Limited) report having held their usual fortnightly sale of hides at their stores on Thursday, 4th inst. There was a full attendance of buyers, and the prices obtained were fully up to last week's rates. Their catalogue of 122 hides was comprised entirely of country Irdes, and did not include any hides of specially good weight or quality. Tho range of values is as follows:—Extra superior ox, 7d to 7gd per lb; prime heavyweight, 5d to sgd; medium, 4Jd to 4jjd; light, Sjjd to. 4d; prime heavy cows, 4hA to 43d; medium, 3Jd to 4Jd; light, 3Jd to 3Jd; yearlings and calfskins. Is Gd to 5s 6d each: Messrs Stronach Bros, and Morris report as follows:—Wo held our fortnightly sale of hides on Thursday, 41.h inst., when we submitted a catalogue of 202 hides and calfskins lo a full attendance of buyers. The competition was good for most descriptions at. values ruling at last sale, best cows being, however, a shade easier and prime, heavy ox hides considerably higher. We were fortunate in obtaining the very high price of 7gd for two extra prime ox hides, averaging 731b, the buyer being Messrs Itemshardt and Co. These hides were a credit to the vendor (Mr E. Luscombe, of Waikouaiti), and netted £2 2s scl each. In addition to tlii? lot, we sold savernl prime ox hides tit sijd, s»d. 5Jd, S;ld, and od, the weights running from 631b to 731b. Our top price for cows was 41d, for a, nice line averaging 601b each. Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report a? follows: —We held our fortnightly sale on Thursday. There was a splendid nui3ter of bltyers, and bidding was much keener than at tho last sale, but, although the market wiis firmer, prices, excepting in the case of an odd extra stout hide or two, were not quotnbly higher. We submitted the best all-round selection of hides—we mean in point of condition and flaying—that we have had this year, and pur offciiift,v> Vk a large one, amounting to 270

hides, exclusive of yearling skins and calfakino. The majority of the hides offered were of fair average quality, but not heavy. The few heavy hides offered brought extreme prices—as high as at any recent sales,—hut other qualities ruled here as elsewhere (the, Australian markets) fully id per lb below July values. Several of the heavier hides brought prices equivalent to from !!0s to 40a. The range per lb was as follows:—Extra stout and heavy ox, 5Ad to Gd ; heavy.ox, 5(1 to 5Jd; medium ox, 4}d to 4gd; light ox, 3Jd to 4d ; extra stout cow, 4Jd to 5d ; ordinary cow, -id to 4gcl; light cow, to 3;d. The Otagp Farmers' Co-operative Association of Kcw Zealand (Limited) report having held their fortnightly sale at their stores on Thursday. They offered a moderate'catalogue to a full representation of the trade, who bid well for every lot, and they cleared the offerings at satisfactory prices.
