OTAGO ROWING CLUB'S CARNIVAL.
The promoters of the O.R.C. carnival hair# Jio reason to complain of the support from the public, and last night the Agricultural Hall was thronged from 8 o'clock to 10. Naturally the greatest interest centred in the dancing, and from a spectacular point of view the carnival will stand comparison with any of those held in the city during recent years. The dance of the fairies wa3 particularly graceful, and the movements of the performers were watched with intense interest and pleasure throughout. Mention might be made of Miss Doris Gore and Miss Violet Myers, central figures in this dance, and their success must have been gratifying to Mis.? Hamann, who has taken so much trouble to perfect them in their parts. The " P°PPy " and " daffodil " dances were also greatly admired. The stalls were liberally patronised during the evening, and the ladies in charge report satisfactory business. In the annex the shooting gallery arid "Aunt Sally " and other side shows attracted numerous patrons, and the gentleman in charge of the latter has not studied the methods of the man who calls the odds on a racecourse where competition is allowed, with the machine, in vain. The management has decided to' giva a matinee performance on Saturday afternoon, when school children will bo admitted at halfprice. This will be an excellent opportunity foi parents to let their children see the dances and handsome costumes of the performers. . Th« thanks of the committee are due to the parents of the children taking part in the carnival, as in nearly every instance the dresses were provided gratis. The carnival will bo continued again to-night.
