Tho Bank of England returns show the stock of coin and bullion, etc., to be £35,621,000, and the reserve £26,274,000. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 51.79. The notes, in circulation total £29,829,000; public deposits, £9,228,000;• . other deposits, £41,367,000; Government securities, £15,582,000; and other * securities, £26,977,000. ; Three months' bills are discounted at 2J per cent. Consols are quoted at £94 12s Gd. Quotations for colonial Government stocks are subjoined, compared with those ruling last week: — Aug. 22 Aug. 29.
The wheat markets are quiet. 'j.ne bad weather is hardening the Continental market. Cargoes are firm. No Australian is offering.. - . Copper: Spot, £51 lis ■ 3d; three months, £51 17s 6d. Tin.—-?S pot, £125; three months, £121. ; Pig iron, 57s 6d. Lead, £11 2s 6d. Sugar is weak. ' German, 6s Id; first marks, 7s 6d. The Bradford wool markets are showing more inquiry.' • -.
