THE VESSEL PICKED UP. (Pes Uhiteb Pbess Assocution.) GISBORNE, August 29. • The Mimiro, with the Taviuni in tow, was reported as passing Gablo End at 12.45 p.m. to-day, going south. The steamers were expected to reach here about 3.30 p.m. The Mimiro had on board a strong steel hawser suitable for towing. The feat of the chief officer of tho Taviuni (who is-a son of Captain Edwin) in landing with the newß is highly applauded in shipping circles. There was a tremendous sea running, and tho launching of tho boat was effected with tho utmost diffioulty and "hazard, whilst running ashore through a half-mile of surf was perilous in the extreme: The men speak in the highest terms of their officer's pluck and skilful navigation. Tho boat was off Tuahine Point at 1 p.m. yesterday, but was unable to mate Gisborne, and as night was ooming on there was nothing for it but to turn round and run her ashore. . . . 8.10 p.m. The Tavumi is not expected to bo brought to port before midnight. The steamer TaInne was intercepted by the Omapero at Teararoa at about 5,30, the Talun.o returning to Auckland, while the Omapero comes on to Gisborne to tow the Taviuni, probably to Wellington. There is & strong wind blowing, with rain.

. Midnight. The Mimiro lias not arrived in port yet, Irat her lights can be seen from Wainui. Evidently the Mimiro, with the Taviuni in tow, is hanging off with head to wind until the morning. The Omapere has been detained at East Cape owing to bad weather. _ , AUCKLAND, August 29. The Talune left this morning to search for the Taviuni, Captain Macbeth hoped, with' anything like good fortune, to tow her into Auckland by Sunday. The Omapere, arriving at To Aroha to-day, was also ordered to go in search of the Taviuni,
