O?£R United Pbebs Association.) 1 WELLINGTON, August 23. In the Supremo Court to-day tUo case of J. H. Brown, ex-convict, v. Dr Teare, gaol surgeon at Wellington, a claim for £2000 damages for alleged unskilful treatment, was opened before his Honor tlio Chief Justice and a jury. The plaintiff alleges that he iiiL'fc with au accident while in gaol, anil that the doctor, without his consent, treated liim with an olcctvic battery and caustic, causing him great pain and injury. Mr Jellicoo appears foi' the plaintiff and Mr Guinness for 'the defendant. Defendant had not concluded his evidence when tho court rose. His examination was chiefly in the direction of showing what his treatment of plaintiff had been with an eloctrio battery and a red-hot iron applied to the spine, also aa to the date of his statements in regard to malingering by Brown.
