The weather was fine, and thei'e was a good wicket and a large attendance. Jones, Carter, and Howell were omitted from the Australians. The latter went in first, and made 138. Lancashire have lost one wicket for 47. Trumper was caught by Stanning in a few minutes after starting. One for 10. Duff and Hill carried the total to 27, when the former retired caught and bowled by Littlowood. Noble got his leg before in the same.over. Three for 27. ii>e pitch proved soft. Darling played forward at liermode after making 10. Four for 54. Hill and Armstrong got 77 in sight when Hill was bowled by Kermode. Five for 77. Hopkins did not alter the total, being bowled by Kermode's third ball. Armstrong was tempted to play forward to Littlewood, and lost his wicket. • Seven for .81.
