BASKET SOCIAL AT. ST. KILDA
Various havo been the methods which have suggested themselves to different communities for tho fitting celebration of the Coronation. Residents of St. lulda Borough considered Die occasion opportune for nil effort to purchase apiano for the new Town Hall. Accordingly a large committee of ladies was formed for the purpose of arranging for a "basket social," v.-hicli is distinguished from the ordinary social by tho faot that refreshments are dispensed from baskets provided by tho ladies. This function tool; place 'last night in the Town Hall, which by an artistic arrangement of flags and greenery was transformed into a cosy, if somewhat' contracted, ballroom. Prominent amongst the large gathering the social brought together we're tho Mayor (Mr Hodges) and most oi tho councillors. Dancing was earned 011 with unflagging spirit to the strains of the nev/ piano, played by Mr Cooper, whilst those who preferred mental to physical enjoyment were provided with cards, etc., in tho_anto rooms. A variety of musical items enhanced the enjoyment, and supper proved all that was desirable as a crowning touch to a successful
entertainment. As close upon 150 tickets' at' : 2s 6d each were disposed of, and the expenses were practically nominal, a substantial sum 1 will bo available towards the desired object. 1 Credit is duo to the committee of ladies arid . 3 to Messrs W. .T.
