OTAGO ROWING CLUB'S CARNIVAL.
In our advertising columns appear particu* lars of a monster art union and carnival promoted by the Otago Rowing Club. The club has just been put to heavy expense -through the harbour improvements necessitating the removal of the boathouse, and the scheme'referred to has been started to help the clearance of the debt incurred, Tho art union prizes am to be on. exhibition during the week. TlVey comprise pictures by Miss Hodgkins and Mcaisrs Butler, Wilson, and Perrctt, aiany- reproductions of famous pictures specially chosen in London, large photographs of English yachting and rowing scenes, carvings by several local amateurs, awl Indian and Japanese tapestry screens and vases. The first prize is a gold-mounted emu's has cost upwards oi £30. The carnival also promises to be something unique. Friends of tho club all over the world have been drawn upon for supplies, and the dancing and other attractions should be well worth seeing. This is tho first appeal the club has made to tho public during its existence of some 28 years, and we wish th#, members all success.
