AVhangapo wai> swung for the adjustment of her compasses yesterday, and after completing the shipment of sheep and cattle from this district left Port Chalmers in tho afternoon for Sydney, via the Bluff, where she completes loading. The s.s. Moura steamed up to Dunedin yesterday. Sho leaves to-day for Auckland, Vi& tho East Coast ports. _Tho many Otago friends of (lipfain J. Taylor, formerly of the Albion Company's ship Thnaru, and now of Messrs P. Henderson and Co.'s s.s. Amarapoora, will b? glad to hear of his well doing. Captain Taylor was in Rangoon on June 26, and was to sail on July 4 for London and Glasgow, via the Suez Canal. Tho barque Akaroa left Liverpool on July 23 for tliis port and Wellington, Tho barque County of Ayr left Edithburg on July 24 with a cargo of salt for New Zealand.

The barque Onyx, of this port, is to Irpad a cargo of timber at Port- Esperance, Tasmania, for Dunedin wharf. The wrecked steamer Karaweera was offered for sale on July 24 at Rockhampton. Ihe hull, masty and machinery were offered in one lot, but there no bids. Al! the movable material in the shin, including wmchos, tarpaulins, etc,, were sold for £58. The lifeboat was sold for £10 10s. The German barque Loreley arrived at Fremantle, from London .on July 16. The. M-flsel left London on April 11, and carried fino weather to the equator, which was crossed on May 25 in long. 28.27 W.; thcuce until arrival at Fremantle the passage was marked by strong variable winds and unsettled, squally weather, 'with' very heavy seas,- which caused the vessel to labour heavily and ship immense quantities of water. When off tlie island of St, Paul tho vessel ran into a furious tempest, with vivid flashes of lightning and deafening peals of j™*. The wind came mostly from W.N.W., and brought up mountainous seas, which constantly flooded the decks. Tarawera was hauled out of the graving dock yesterday, and will undergo extensive repairs before going into comlnission again. The Canadian Pacifio Railway Company has contracted with Messrs Swan and Hunter, of Neweastle-on-Tyne, for the construction of a 300 ft twin-screw steamer, intended to steam at about 20 knots, and to connect the Canadian Pacific railroad, which terminates at the Port of Vancouver, British Columbia, with the town of Victoria, on vancomer Island, which is distant about 70 miles from the port of Vancouver. Handsome accommodation is to be fitted for 160 passengers, including 80 two-berth staterooms, and commodious dining, sitting, and smoking rooms; there will also bo accommodation for deck and Chinese passengers, Tho machinery will ba supplied "by Hawthorne, Leslie,- and Co., of -Newcastle, and is to be constructed lindor spooial survey, and to take-Mto classification of tho British Corporation Registry.
