OTAGO LAND BOARD.

The usual weekly meeting of the Otago Land Board was held on Tuesday, when there were present—The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr D. Barron), and Commissioners Dallas and Duncan. . Inder, on behalf of Mrs Inder, Mrs Delaney, and W. Ginsberg, applied to have their holdings on the .east side of Avoca street, Naseby Town, surveyed and offored for sale.— To be surveyed as requested. W. 15. Galloway, oil behalf of a syndicate, applied for a license to prospect for and work coal 011 section IG, Makareao. estate.—Consent given, subject to Minister's approval, and also on conditions set out in letter from stock inspector. A letter from, the Under-Secretary for Lands with reference to the board's recommendation in regard to section 18, block IV, Tiger Hill district, was Teceived. . H. C. Harding applied to have the rent of section 8, block IX, Tanas' district, held by lnm under lease in perpetuity, reduced.—The board decided that they had no power to reduce the rent. A five months' grazing right over, sections 17 and part 16, block XIV, Pomahaka Downs «state, was offered to James Burke until 31st October, at the rent mentioned. John Herriott wrote asking if the board was prepared to accept a certain sum for improvements and rent on sections 48, 49, 52, 53, 'block XI, and sections' 2 and Gl, block X, Pomahaka Downs estate, and if the rent can commence from Ist July, 1903.—The offer was declined.

Assistant-Tanger O'Neill reported on the application by W. E. l'ichardson for a. sawmill license over 109 acres, being parts of blocks VIII and X; Waipori district.—The application was granted at the royalty fixed bv regulations. " " The reserve having been removed from section 19, block XIV, Pomahaka Downs estate, the board decided that the section be granted underlease in perpetuity to John Burke, the adjoining lessee, at the same rental, An application for rural Sand on occupation with right of purchase tenure for 3921 by Fanny Matilda Kinpan, section 1, block VI, Lower Wanaka district, was approved. An application, to transfer from p.l, IGG v.s.s., John Ward to Robert Townlev, jun., section 59, block I, Warepa district, was approved. David Ross's application to subdivide his small grazing run, section G, block VIII, Dunback district, between his two sons (George Ross and David Ross, jun.) was referred to the commissioner to consult the Surveyor-general in connection with the matter. Tho Commissioner of Crown Lands reported having conferred with the Waikerikeri Valley petitioners in regard to retaining portion of Clyde Commonage Run, and he suggested that an area of 700 acres in the north-east' corner be reserved for settlement, and the upset rent of the run reduced to £20. The Commissioner also reported that the local people were satisfied with the alteration, and that he stipulated with them tliat if the run was not sold the board would have to reconsider the question of offering it e.s originally advertised.—The commissioner's action was approved.
