Essex, with three wickets down for 184, declared their innings closed. Perrm am) Whitney scored with freedom, tho latter being eventually caught in the slips by NoUe after a brilliant display of hitting. Three for 178. Resnming after luncheon Perrin and Kortnght brought the total up to l&i. Ttie Australians opei\ed their second' innings with Trempe* and D»Jf, but the j Mter only scored 7 when Young, with a good hall, took liis middle stump. One I for 20. Hill and Tramper indulged in! steady batting. When the total had | passed half a century the scoring became j freer. Hill; after passing Tmmpev's score, gave a skyer to M'Gahey at extra mid-off. The partnership of tho second wicket added 101 runs. Darliiig joined J'rumper, but the captain was bowied by Mead shortly after his getting into douuie figures. Three for 158. (Received July 31, at 1.9 a.m.) , Gregory assisted Trumper ill compiling his century and carrying the total well beyond the second hundred. IVith - to his- credit he was nicely caught by Russell behind the ■stumps. Four for 220. Trumper was the next to go, leg before to Reeves. He was two hours and a-half at tho wickets, ami played a superb innings without giving a single chance. Hill, plnyiiig good, steady cricket, had ably seconded him. Five for 237. Hopkins came and went without altering tho board. Trumble and Kelly played out time, six wickets being down for Mi. The match was' drawn. Scores:—'
