AFFECTING SCENES AT THE MINE.
THE WORK OF RESCUE.' SYDNEY, July 31. (Received August 1, at 0.32 a.m.) The scene along the road to and at the mine is heartrending, women fainting, and many rushing about distractedly calling the names of their husbands and sons. Immediately after the explosion the men began to come out of the tunnel in batches of half a dozen, hut 150 still remain entombed. The greater portion of the buildings at the entrance to the mine camo tumbling down through the force of the explosion. A leg separated from the body was found in the debris. Two bodies were discovered on the surface. ■An each coal-begrimed man issued from the tunnel women with babies in their arms .scrutinised them in the hope of finding their own. Rescue parties were quickly organised, But their efforts are hampered by their inability to locate tho scene of iha disnsler. K Amongst (nose entombed are six members of one. family. The cause of the disaster is Mieved io be due to .in accumulation ol gas in the old workings. The miud is a wellrentilated one. Five bodies have been recovered.
