The following is a cony of a petition for." warded from the Tapanui district to tlie Minister of Lands urging' the opening for settlement of Kun 140n Sir,—We, the settlers ; ol Tapanui district, venpecthilly ask you to open 2000 acres of land o'ii run 140b for close settlement. For the last 10 yeai's your petitioners have bsen applying to tile Otago'Land Board for this block of land, tilt have met with refusal every time. There is no other block available for close settlement, and tlie land applied for i» of good quality, and suitable in every way for elese settlement. Yotu petitioners would call your special attention (o the success of the-small settlement adjoining (he block applied for. There are scores of small settlers on the adjacent selections, and there lias not been a single defaulter amongst them. Where they now have comfortable homesteads there was nothing but scrub and bush a few years ago. The Hon. Mr M'Gowan, Minister o£ Justice, recently inspected run MOB, and he nyor'ed, tho land as suitable in every way for close settlement. Hoping you will "order the immediate survey of run 140« for close settlement, and your petitioners will ever pray, etc
