THE ORIENT COMING TO OTAGO. Press Association—By Telegraph-Copyright. PERTH, July. 25. The Orient, from South Africa, has arrived here. She brings 1185 returned troopers, mostly New Zealanders. After coaling she will proceed to Melbourne. ■ (Per United Pjvkss Association,) WELLINGTON, July 25. The following, dated Albany, Thursday, has been received by tho Commandant from Major Abbott, commanding the troops on the Orient:—"The Orient arrived hero this morning; troops all well, Total on board for "Australia 121, for New Zealand 63 officers aud 1122 men, m follows:—Ninth Contingent, 62 officers and 1037 men; Sixth Contingent, 2 men; Seventh Contingent, 10 men; Eighth Contingent, 1 officer and 14- men; Tenth Contingent, 52 men. For various ports—Auckland 263, Wellington 298, Nelson 95, Lyttelton 261,.Dunedin 268.

WELLINGTON, July 25. , In reply to inquiries by the Government the following cable messago from Major Piloher, dated Capetown, Thureday, has been received:—"Major Jackson and Captain Mitchel sailed by the Montrose with the Tenth Contingent from Durban on the 15th. No. 638 M'Gonigle, at Johannesburg, is well. No. 1418 KeJfand is convaleeoent, on hie way to Capetown. 'Ernest Baker .is convalescent at Elandsfontein. No. 3340 Atkins is progressing favourably at- Newcastle. Vetorinary-surgeon Mathews is recovering; he is likely to sail on the 28th with 20 other officers Capetown." His Worship the Mayor received a tele? gram last evening stating that the Orient, with the Ninth Contingent an'd a number of men belonging to other contingents, was oxpectod to reach Port Chalmers on the 4th of August. A private message received from Surgeoncaptain Falconer states that the Orient arrived at Albany on Thursday .night, •
