In committee the clause providing that women should not be candidates for parliamentary elections was carried by 45 to 14. TASMANIA'S FINANCES. HOBART, July 25. (Received July 25, at 11.21 a.m.) In the Assembly the Treasurer de- ! livered his Budget speech. The revenue for the year totalled £826,000, and the ! expenditure £870,000. He proposed to ' make retrenchment to the extent r of £33,000. The estimated revenue next •.'year was £801,000, and the expenditure j ±:S',iO,()OQ. Tho proposed taxation suggested a l'eimposition of receipt stamp duty, the substitution of a house for an income tnx, the assessment of incomes of. non-householders, and the taxation of trading companies with headquarters outside the State. The Treasurer anticipates obtaining £134,000 by financial adjustment, including £25,000 from 'increased railway rates,
