TITULAR DISTINCTIONS.
TO THE EDITOR. I Sin,—Will yon kindly; injorm me how and in what manner the title of LL.D. was conferred upon' the Premier? I have not observed this prominence in the daily papers, simply seeing it in Letts's Diary and on the very many portraits hung in conspicuous places of Mr Srddon. Personally, I was inclined to the opinion that it was nil error, as I understood such a title came from the seat of learning, and that only a very advanced scholar,,after years of hard work among the dead languages, could gain the LLD. In this I probably err, but certainly it came as a surprise to me, as it' must to many, that Richard Seddon should • hold it. Is the title given in with. tlic'l'.C.? Or arc such titles recklessly bestowed upon people whose qualifications do not- warrant the appendix?—l am, etc., Queenstown, 20. Vox PoptJH. [Tho honorary degree of LL.D. was conferred on Mr Seddon by the authorities cf Cambridge University when lie was in England fit the time of the late Queen's Diamond Jubilee—Eu. O.D.T.]
