ASSAULTS IN FIJI.
(Per United PnEss Association.) AUCKLAND, July 24. Fiji papers contain particulars of tho trials at the Suva Supreme Court of several Indian Coolies for murderous attacks on planting overseers. At Ba an Indian named Shanka was scntrcneed to 10 • years penal servitude for wounding, with intent to murder, W. K. Sweetland at Itarawai, Ba. Sweetland was terribly injured with a cano knife by the prisoner, and had to have \w left hand amputated.-The assault occurred last November. For another affair, wounding C. H. Lamb and J. W. Sndlier, on tho Mrt Vatu Estate, throe Indian labourers received sentences of six years, four years, and ?. years' hard labour. In tiie assault on Lamb, three men attacked him lnii month while he was going round the lines inspecting. He was knocked down and beaten very severely. The iron then left for (heir houses to pet their kim-es, and Lamb climbed up a Mango tree. Two of tho men had started to climb tho tree after him when help came,
