IMPORTS OF FODDER INTO NEW SOUTH WALES.

In connection with the recent agitation for the suspension, of the fodder duties in New South Wales, tho following instructive, rqturn, prepared by Mr Lockyer, Collector of Customs, at the instance of tho State Premiers, shows the. imports into New South Wales from , countries outside the Commonwealth, of fodder and feed grains- during tho years 1899, 1900, and 1901. The countries frpm.'whieh imports were received were New Zealand, Fiji, Argentine Republic, New Poir.mern, New Caledonia, New Hebrides; and the United State's. s In 1899,,235 tons of hay and.cliaff. and 60 tons of straw were imported from New Zealand; 61,950 bushels of barley came from the same place, and 37,329 biishcb .from the United States, making the total importations 99,279 bushels. Tim.'bran imported was 485,847' bushels, the i greatest portion of which came from New Zealand, and the remainder from New Caledonia. ■ The largest importations wore in maize. New Zealand contributed 121,551 Fiji, 12,540 bushels; Argentine Republic, 9600 bushels; New Pommern, 240 bushels; New Caledonia, 10,314 bushels; New Hebrides, 21,926 bushels; and the United State; 259.258 bushels; making the total importations of maize 566,429 bushels. The quantity - 6f oats imported was 1,160,487 bushels, which, with the exception of 60 bushels, from the United States, came from Now Zealand, and the same country nlso -contributed 12Q.796 bushels of pollard, whilst Now forwarded 3780 bushels, and 14,289 bushels of sharps came from New Zealand.

The importations for 1900 snow a large falling off, and again New Zealand was the chief cccitributor. The total amounts received were as follows:—Hay and chaff,,Bs tons; straw. 31' tons'; barley, 65.751 bushels from New Zealand and 18 bushels from the United States, making' 65,769 bushels; bran, 141,787 biislicL; from New Zealand and 2400 buahols from New Caledonia, making 144,187 ■bushels; maize,' New Zealand forwarded 158,312 bushels, Fiji 11,584 bushels, Argentine Republic 12,404 buehels, New Caledonia 27,221 'bushels, New Hebrides 32,095 bushels, and the United States 175.64?. bushels, makrag.the total imports 417,258 bushels. Regarding oat?, 984,651 bushels came from New Zealand and 42 bushels from the United States. New Zealand sent over 46,46'< i bushels of pollard, whilst 4450 bushels came from New Caledonia. New Zealand also .contributed 6590 bushels of sharps.

' In 1901 the imports-were:—Hay and chart from New Zealand, 96 teas, Natal 1 ton; sjtraw, New Zealand 16 tone; barley, New Zealand, .54,471 Inisheb, New Caledonia, 48 bushels; bran, New Zealand 15,745 bushels; ■maize, 'New Zealand 96,000 bushels, Fiji 15,208 bushels, New Pommern 929 bushels, New Caledonia 22,144 bushels, New Hebrides 34,785 bushels, South Sea Islands 2015 ■bushels, making the total importations '171,086 bushels:, outs, New Zealand 969,847 ■bushels, Cape Colony 2+ bushels; pollard, New Zealand 15,500 bushels; sharps, New' Zealand 620' bushels, Fiji 100 'bushels.'
