OTAGO EMPLOYERS' ASSOCIATION. At a meeting of the Executive of the Ctagy Employers' Association held this week a communication was received from the Canterbury's Employers' Association suggesting a confcrcnce of delegates from the various employers' associations, the conference to bo hold at Wellington.—The executive approved of the proposal, and resolved to semi delegates as requosted. It is understood that the conference will be l.ekl early in August. A letter was.received from one of the large rani-mining companies drawing the attention of the association to a clause in the Coal Mines Acs Amendment Bill just' introduced by Mr Guinness, which would pre- u s very heavily oh an industry that has already very heavy burdens to carry, and asking the association to take 'action in the matter.— It was decided to communicate at once with the City members and with Mr .Tames Allen, M.H.R., drawin gtlieir attention to the clause in question and the effect it would have on the coal-mining industry. The secretary was alsu instructed to communicate with the .City members pointing out the inconvenience caused to business men by the bank holidays at present observed on Whit Monday, St. George's Day, St. Andrew's Day,: and St. Patrick's Day, and ask them to endeavour to have those holidays removed from the list of proposed bank holidays. (Pin Unitjd Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 11. _ Owing to the completion of the main lines for clcctric tramways a' good number of men are unemployed in the city. A meeting lias been called by advertisement anonymously, to urge tho Government to provide work for iilen-needing it. Mr Ferguson. of the Labour Bureau, say 3 that the unemployed are mostly single men, who recently came here on account of the tramway works, and now find themselves out of employment. He docs not think there is any great lack of work among married men permanently rosiaeut in Auckland. He says that he anticipated the unemployed difficulty 'on the slackening of tramway works, and had advised the Labour Department. He expected to receive authority to si'nd a number of men to the trunk railway works lact night. ' WELLINGTON, July 11. A conference of delegates from the SawTimber Yards Unions, representing 2000 unionists, has lwen opened here. The principal questions to be discussed will bo the basis of federation, and preference of employment- to unionists.
