FIRE AT HENLEY.

A fire broke out in Mr W. M'Kegg's store at Henley at 10 minutes to 2°on Tuesday morning, and totally destroyed the premiss before anything could be done to quer.cli! tiif. flames. Mr M'Kegg, it is said, retired to bed about 11 o'clock ou the pre\ious evening, leaving everything in apparent safety. About the time mentioned he was. awakened by the. sound of crackling timber, and arose to find the place full of sn-cke and the building on'fire, lie hastily got his wife and family out of danger, and then returned to save what lie could. The names, however, by .that time had obtained such a liokl that it was impossible to save anything and the premise, whicli contained, besides household furnishing?, p. largo (juan* tity of stores used by Mr M'Kegg in his business as storekeeper, wevo destroyed, nothing but the bare chimneys being left. .The bakehouse at the rear and Mr A. M'Kegg's hotel, not far along the road, were not touched'by the flames, bill they had a narrow escape. The fire apparently began in the shelves of the front shop, but the cause is still in doubt'. The premises— an eight-roomed house, a store, wherein also the local post and telegraph offices were located—were insured iti the Royal office for £150, and the slock was covered to Hie °xtent of £300 by the same office. Mr M'KcgU expects hip loss !o exceed this amount very considerably.
