flio s.s. Atokoia is at present being docked at Lyttelton owing to the dock at Port Chal mers being nnsuitablo. This means the transffrcncD to Lyttelton of the legitimate trade of the port; as thcT'.S.S.Co.'s works and stores are at Port Chalmers, r.ml innsmuch as Port Chalmers is the port of Otago, Otago will suffer with the port in the loss oi trade for want, of a larger dock. While the works ut Lyttelton are running double time, our Port is idle. The U.S.S, Co. are building larger steamers every year, and unless the people of Otago bestir themselves, the trade (representing a large sum) arising from, the faet of our Port being the headquarters of the U.B.S. Co., Will pass to some other port offering up-to-date facilities for (locking.
