The van was derailed when passing over Oio unfortunate man, and owing to th'e delay occasioned the train was nearly ah hour late m arriving at Balclntha. Nothing haO Been ascertained as to tlio motive for tlfe rash action.
Further particulars of the fatality which occurred near the Otanomomo railway station on the sth seem to make it clear that young Millar intentionally did awav with hinifSlf. It appears that he boarded ono of tho front carriages, aiid was staridinit on tho platform as the train moved off, when suddenly he was hoard to say, "I've hart enough of tlm," or words (b that elfcet. He then got off and walked towards the rearmost rare until lie came to tho brake-van, tho second last car.\ Without any hesitation he threw up His JmndS ami drved under it. his body licin" nearly swrod in two. Tho train, which "was not yet going at full spend, was quickly pulled up. r,if« was not extinct when the body was got clear. Dr Smith was sent for, but Millar died before ho arrived. Deceased's familv i-i well known in the Port Molynbux district. The father (the late .fames Millar) died 1?. months ago, and deceased, who was tho youngest son. worked at horiio and looked after his mother. There was apparently in) caiis-e for the rash act,
