Tho s.s. Waihora is being cleaned and repainted in the Port Chalmers graving dock. She leaves the Port to-morrow afternoi,n for (lie Blnlf, ilobart, anil Melbourne. The brigantinc Sarah and Mary is still anchored in Carey's Bay, waiting a fair wind to proceed north. The s.s. Wniwera is making steady progress at, the (irorgn street pier. In addition lo having landed over 1400 tons of inward cargo, she has taken in over 1000 tales of wool, with a largo ouantily of tallow and other cargo. The recent wet weather lias retarded operations considerably in connection with the loading of wool on the shin Taranalti. The vessel is only about half-loaded, and is not likely to leave for two or three, weeks yet.

The ship Tnvcrcargill is getting on well with the discharge of her earijo, which is coining up in good order. She has still some 400 tons to discharge. The vessel (■(iininenced to take in ballast yesterday afternoon, and will probably get away about Tuesday next for Oamarii, where she will load wool for London.

According to all accounts, the directors of the North (lernian Lloyd Steamship Company are disturbed at certain symptoms which they perceive of their line becoming Americanised, and are now devoting their attention to devising some means ofaverting Ihis threatened dcnationalism. The liokalanzeiger states Hint neither the North Herman Lloyd nor the Hamburg-American Company are desirous that their ships should make Dover a port of call, and adds that the Ivmycror's interest in the new barboiir at Dover is purely technical, bis Majesty having expressed no Miecial desire, as- to (•(■rman ship? calling at that'port.

When the Moura was in the graving dock the work of making her secure from an inflow of water must have been incomplete in Hjine. detail, as an examination of the afterhold of the vessel yrsierday morning revealed the fact that she was leaking slightly. Fortunately thcro was not very much cargo in tho hold «l the. time, but what there was (oats chiefly) had, of course to be discharged and left behind. The vcssnl was, however, able to leuve at the proper time yesterday afternoon.

Intending passengers by the harbour steamer Onslow from I'orlobcllo ami Broad Bay were put to some inconvenienco yesterday morning owini; to the littlo ves=nl sticking on a bank just off Porlobello. She had been to the Kaik, and was steaming to the Portobello wharf to pick up her naspongers when she took the ground. Unfortunately, her engines refused to reverse, and she w:u compelled to remain aground till the' tide floated her off about half-past 1. The intending passengers wore forced to seek tho aid of :> 'bus to reach their businesses! in town. The Onslow came up to town later on. and left in the evening as u*ual.

The Oovernment grunt of £200 is now heing expended in snagging operations in Moknu River. The Miknu Coal Company is providing tho scow Surprise, Inirirh, and bargeto expedite the wort.
