(Received Jan. 5, at 5 p.m.) Referring to the cable suggesting the granting to France of concessions in the New Hebrides with a view to sottliug the aowfouncllawl French shore question, Mr Barton has requested Lord Hopotoun to inform Mr Chamberlain that public opinion in Australia has undergone no change and that the Commonwealth Government had the gravest objections to any weakening of the British hold on the New Hebrides. Mr Barton states that he has no fear that the British flovernment will take any steps, but he wished to strengthen Mr Chamberlain's hands.
