The city surveyor has been instructed as follows : -To act as to the application from Messrs T. 13. Conway and '22 others for the erection of a street lamp in Clyde avenue; to act as to patching Manor place, between Princes and Melville streets, with metal and blinding same with stone dust; to act r.s to tarring e.ml sanding the footpath on tho upper side of Graham street as requested by Mr 11. F. Hardy) to net with regard to application from Messrs Holgato and Aitchison for Tenain to the road in front of their slablc.3 ill Vogcl street; lo act. as to taking up the crossing at the foot of Scotland street at Cargill street if mud tanks arc there. The application o! Mr W. W. Snicer for permission for the deaf, dumb, and blind entertainers to give a sacrrd concert on Sunday. May 5, has been declined. Messrs Glaister anil Carey's tender for constructing and supplying four new dint carts ior tile sum of £30 has been accepted. The Finance Committee recommends that a mayoral ipbe be provided by the City Council, and TfcporU that the following accounts have been passed (or payment:—.Municipal account. i*3CO 3s 8d; water account. .{'lßt tis Gd: gas.account, i'o3l 7s Id; city and suburban tramways account, .CI!8 13s 4d; and tramways loan account, j£:t ss;—total, £2317 lis 7d. | The Gas Committee reports that the gas engineer has been authorised as follows:—To procure locally a Tnugye steam pump, at a Co3t of about £20, and to import four e\hauskr valves, at a cost of about £10 each. The General Committee reioinmntls that an account from Dr John M. L. Davies foi the sum of-£'lii2 las Gd. for examining and reporting on'premises which were reported as unfit for habitation, be passed for payment; that the Perpetual Trustees, Estate, and Agency Company of Xow Zealand (Limited) be authorised io acquire the necessary lands and way-leaves for tbe proposed abattoir drain on the best terms; that the New Zealand Refrigerating Company (Limited) be allowed to connrrt their drainage from works at Burnside with tho proposed abattoir drain, nrovided they pay a sum oi .C 175 per annum, half-cost- of niainteniuico of tho drain (to be asac.wl by Mr 1!. The lenders received for the pioposcd drain from the abattoir to the ocean have been left over until Mr 1!. Kay has returned to town. 'The conditions under which iho Railway department is prepared to grant the City Council permission to lay tho proposed drain from the abattoir within its boundaries have been agreed to. Tho Tramways Committee recommends that the proposed tram line be laid on tho west side of the Anderson's Bay road; that allotment 1-1, subdivision of sections 8, 11, 10, and part 511, Wakari district, be reserved from sale, the namo being required as a site for a transformer station in the event of tho council deciding to adopt water power tor generating clcotricity for the tramways; that with reference to motion No. 137.1, a vote o! tbe district electors be taken on tho question of Sundjy tri'flio for the tramways. The city engineer has brcn instructed to have borings taken iu connection with the proposed weir on tho Taicri River. The town clerk has been instructed to reply to the letters received [mm Messrs Howell, Stuart, Kelman, and Co. (Limited), and Messrs Dalqcly and Co. (Limited), aa representatives for Messrs Witting llros., with reference to tendering for the proposed installation of electric tramways iu Duneditt. Pay-ahccts and accounts, amounting to £033 on the general tramv;ay.s account and £103 35a 5d on tho tramways loau account, have been passed for payment,
