The fiisf meeting of the Joini Committee representing the Canterbury Employers' Association and Canterbury Trades and Labour Council wa.s held this evening. Tlte subject of preference of employment to unionists was discussed, but iio coitc'ii-ion was come to. At the next meeting cases of sweating in Christchurch will be discussed, the opinion being expressed that the committee could do much good in dealing with such a question. NAPIER, May 14. The painters who went out on strike yi>te:'day resume work to-morrow, on the advice of the Wellington Union.
