(Per United Press Association , .) THAMES, May 10. A young woman named Edith May Dunfov has been arrested on a charge of attempted suicide. She threatened to do away with herself. When the constable approached her she had a handful of matches in her mouth. She was taken to the hospital, and, after medical attention, was pronounced out of danger. WELLINGTON, May 10. Mr John Hutcheson, senior member for Wellington City, delivered n post-sessional address to-night. His remarks were chieily devoted to a criticism of the Government. No <vote was taken. Georgo T. Ross, convicted ot false pretences, was admitted to probation fur 18 months. Alexander StapleUm and Joseph Keir, alias Irwin, were sentenced to 12 and six months respectively for breaking and entering. George Lund was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment for horse-stealing at Feilding. Some days ago a Chinese charged with indecently assaulting a. girl, 14 years old. was before the magistrate, when it was announced that he had been married to the girl. Counsel for prisoner contended that the latter was now an incompetent witness. The police, however, intend to proceei , ] with •the prosecution, and the case will be heard next week. HOKITIKA. May 10. Active steps are being taken by the Ross Borough Council and Railway League to 'promote the extension of the railway from Hokitika, promised by the Premier. CTIRISTCIIUKCH. May 10. i'he Premier lias consented, if possible, to open the A. and P. Association's winter show on the 29th.
