PORT CHALMERS. Mr E. H, Carew, S.M M held an assessment at Port Ohalmers on Saturday, whan Alexander Clark appealed against tho valuation placed on tho property-occupied by.him. After hearing tho evidence of Mr 1), Lee, tho corporation valuator,'his Worship disallowed the appeal. .Tames West also appealed, on the grounds thnt ho considered it very hard he should devote time and labour towards making a garden, erecting, conservatory, etc., and then bo heavily taxed for doing so. He considered this was oppression. Tho valuator having given evidenco, tho appeal was disallowed. 'j. RAVEJJSBOUBNE. Mr E.' H. Carew, S.M., held a sitting of'the Assessment Court at Ravcnsbournc on Saturday, but no objectors put in an appearance.
