THE RAILWAY DEPARTMENT.
AN INCREASE OP WAGES. WELLINGTON, January 18. - Some time ago the Railway department decided to raise the wages of its day labourers by 6d per day. Later on the blacksmiths and boilermakers got a similar rise, and the Minister has now decided to extend the increased remuneration to all artisans in the Government Workshops. This means an increased annual expenditure of £20,000.
