MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
/ — ■ Court Pfide of the Leith, A.0.F., held their i ordinary foTtriightly meeting last week' at the | Oddfellows' Hall, Albany street. The C.R. (Bro. J. P, James) occupied the chair. After the usual business, the auditors' report and balance shoot for the year ended December 31 ! were submitted. These Bhowed the court to be making satisfactory, progress, the sick and | funeral fund showing a fain of .€223 7s'.Gd snd the management fund £H 9s 9d; total, £232 j 17s 3d. The interest on investments, credited ; to the sick fund, was £172 3s sd. The sick pay disbursed amounted to JlB2, and funeral claims amounting to £10 were also paid; . the grand total of funds being .-£3210 3s lOd, £3000.0f which is woll invested by the trustees. The members expressed satisfaction at the favourable re--1 port, and unanimously adopted the same, The management fund being in a good position, it was resolved to cease charging the extra Id per week, which had been in force for some I years. The monthly meeting of the Loyal Orange Lodge No Surrender was held in the Choral Hall on Wednesday, 16th inst., when there wae a largo attendance. The W.M. (Bro. Straw) presided. Correspondence was read, including a report of the Grand Lodge annual session, by the R.W.G.S, Bro.,Willis, as already reported. | During tho evening one friend was admitted. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the visiting brethren, aud .was responded to by D.M. Bro. Hunt and Bro. Kyle (Oamaru) and Bro. Duneen (Timaru). It was resolved to pay an official visit to No. 12 Lodge. ! Tho Lily of tho Valley Lodge,' 1.0. G.T., held ■ I their weekly meeting on Monday night in the Albany street Hall, Bro. W. Hey, C.T., presiding. There was a good attendance. One candidal was initiated. After business, the following resolution was unanimously adopted:— " That this meeting express their deepest regret at the distressing news of her Majesty's illness, and hope that by divine help her health ! might be fully rostored." ' The usual vote to ; visitors was responded -to by Bros. Abernethy j (Pioneer) and Bush (Alliance). Tho fortnightly meeting of the Hope of I!a----vonsbourne Lodge, 1.0. G.T., was held ou the 21st inst., Bro. G. Mitchell, C.T., presiding. i There was a large attendance, the District Lodge being officially welcomed. Two can- ! didates were initiated. Bro. Emerson aud Sister Hogan, of the Lifeboat Lodge, Timaru, were present, and conveyed greetings from their lodge. On going into harmony songs i were contributed by Bro.'Stubb3 (encored), Bro. 1 M'Kay, Bro. Henderson; a recitation by Sister I Thomas; and an organ solo by Sister South. ! The following resolution, proposed by, Bro. D. C. Cameron and seconded by Bro. Saudilaads, was passed: —" That this meeting congratulate Inspector Pardy and his men on their successful raiding in connection with the recent cases of. sly grog-selling in the Clulha district." The j singing of " God save the Queen" formed part of the usual closing ceremony, I The annual meeting of the Phoenix Eiicamp- [ ment, 1.0.0. F., was held on the 18th inst. There was a good attendance of members. Out of respect to the memory of a deceased brother (Patriarch P. Russoll) the lodge was. draped with black, and feeling reference ,was made to his demise by C.P. Bro. William Rrid, who spoke of the long and faithful servico Bro. j Russell had rendered to the cause, of Odd--1 'fellowship. Tho scribe was instructed to convey the respectful condolences of the lodge to the deceased s relatives. The following officers were elected for the current year:-—Chief Patriarch. Bro. G. Crichton; high priest, Bro. ,T. H. Hinton; senior warden, Bro:" A. W, Oxlcy; junior warden, Bro. M. B. Feil; scribej 1 Bro. J. A. Walker; treasurer, Bro. D. M. Miller; auditors,, Bros, Oxlcy and Springer. j The installation ceremony was postponed pend- ! ing tho. arrival of Past Grand. Sire Bro. Herj bert J. Williams, of Wellington,, who, is cxf pectefl to arrive in Dusodin at on carlv date. The ordinary- mesting of the Horewcka Lodge, T.0.0.F.. was'held at the Masonic Hall, PortoS hello, nn Saturday last, and was presided over by N.O. Millar Anderson. After the'transoci tion oi ordinary business one candidate was i™ i-itiated into the mysteries of the order. The election of Grand Lodac representatives was also taken, and candidates for the nosition briefly addressed the meeting. A vote of thanks io the visitors was responded to by Bros. Snringcr (Pioneer), M'P'eake (Leith), Black (Unity), end Kcmnitz (Linden). After the lodge"lisd been closed tho degree lodge attended, under P.D.M. Bro, Springer, for the purnoso of conferring degrees upon candidates, of whom 17 were present.
