TUAPEKA JOCKEY CLUB RACES. (From Our Spf.ciai/Reporteh.) LAWRENCE, January 16. The annual races of the Tuapeka County Jockey Club were commenced on the Lawrence racecourse to-day. Beautiful weathei prevailed, and there was a good attendance. The fields in the majority of cases were small, there being only three horses in five of 'the events. The principal race of the day, the [Lawrence Handicap, was pulled off by Bracken, who won a good race in a field of three, of which Urisa was favourite. The largest dividend paid during the day was in the Two-mile Trot, in which investors of £1 on Erin pocketed £8. Messrs Mason and Roberts put £1019 through the totalisator during the day, as against £883 handled by them on the first day of last year's meeting. Mr B. Hart was starter, Mr A. Myers judge, Mr J. Hopkins timekeeper, and Afr G. Dowse handicapper. Result 3:—: — MAIDEN PLATE, Of 20sovs. One mile. G3 —Mr R. Brown's b m Waimate Maid, aged, 8.13 (M'Comb) 1 342-Mr A. Little Bob then assumed the command, but Waimate Maid came with a rush in the straight, and, passing the other two, won by nearly a couple of lengths, there being a length between second and third. Time, Imin 50sec. There was £101 on the machine; dividends, £1 8s and 14s. PUBLICANS' HANDICAP, Of 30sovs; second horse ssovs. Six furlongs. 11— Mr J. M'Lean's b m La Eerae, syre, 8.13 (Noble) 3 Off Chance kept at the head of affairs all the way, and won by three-quarters of a length from Belligerent, La Reino being several lengths away third. When the field were got going the order was Stockfish, Ukase, Annoyance, and Blizzard. At the brickyard Annoyance took second place, and the same order was maintained for the rest of the way, Stockfish winning by about five lengths. A good race then ensued, and, although Decoy and Brisa made a big effort in the straight, they werp unable to overtake the leader, who won by a length and a-half from Decoy, who passed Brisa near home and beat her by half a length.
