THE HON. JOHN M'KENZIE.
TO THE EDITOB. Sib,—With your correspondent Mr Hodge, we all rejoice at the prospect of Mr John M'Kenzie's satisfactory steps towards recovery. New Zealand, under the extravagant, bombastic, self-advertising methods of Premier Seddon, can never expect the steady progress she made under - the wiser guidance of John M'Kenzie. We have just read Premier Seduon'a remarks on the Federation Coinmission and the work they have to do. He says agricultural interests will require to be well considered and advanced. Yet so. far as the farming class' are concerned they are absolutely unrepresented on that commission. True, we lmve Sir John Roberts, but he represents the pastoralists. Would the Hon. John M'Kenzie have permitted such an omission? And, as far as the commission is concerned, it is perfectly well known what their report will be, and all the needless expense is a mere sham. Mr Seddon has placed his majority there to supply him with a report- such as his soul loveth, and that will free him from taking the personal responsibility of refusing to federate with Australia. Wero the Hon. John il'Kenzie to recover sufficiently to once more take a leading part in polities, the very best men in New Zealand would be proud to serve nnder him, and the colony would be relieved of a self-sesking Premier, whose only policy is number one.— I am, etc., Caberfeidh. Dunedin, January 10.
