PALMERSTON D.H. SCHOOL WATER SUPPLY.
TO TUB EDITOR.
Sir,—With your permission, I would desire to raako a few remarks with reference to the statements made at the Education Board's last meeting by Mr D. Borrie about, the water supply to the Palmerston District' High School, as reported in your columns.' It was there stated that the water was taken from a sludge channel. The Shag River is. not anything of the kind. The water taken for the use of the children is filtered through chains of gravel, pumped by the Railway department's windmills, and is obtained from. their supply pipe less than two chains from the school. The supply is always plentiful and clean. The Borough Council have now laid water supply pipes throughout theborough, it was deemed advisable to have the school supplied from that source, and not from the slate roof, the supply from which would be inadequate and very intermittent. In rainy weather there is often a too great supply inside the school, notwithstanding the' slato roof, and to this the board's attention, has moro than once been drawn. In dry weather, who is to fetch water, as the board has only provided one 400-gallon tank for water for the supply of about 250 pupilsfSwell are the facts.—-I am, etc., Alex. Gilmoeb. Logic, December 21.
