DIX'S GAIETY COMPANY.

Counter attractions no doubt accounted for a slight falling off irj the attendance at the Alhambra Theatre on Saturday evening. Dixs Gaiety Company have now entered upon their fifteenth week, and during the whole of the time they have had possession of the Alhambra, Theatre they have seldom, if ever, failed to draw good houses, and their success has therefore been quite equal to that of Mr Fuller, who catered for the public with most satisfactory results for a very considerable period. On Saturday evening a first-class programme was presented, and carried out to the entire satisfaction of tho audience, who, as usual, damoured for redernands almost incessantly. This was particularly noticeable in the case of Mr i'orke, whoso ditties never seem to pall upon hi 3 audience. He is certainly most amusing, and his get-up ia in itself sufficient to raise a laugh, and never fails to do so. Of the others appearing in the earlier part of the evening Little Eileen Boyd and Mr Cowan were conspicuously prominent in pleasing the audience, though all met with decided approval. Later on Mr Moreni gave a Short, neat exhibition of gymnastics on the triple bars, some humour boing lent by the clowning of one of the members of the company. Misses Clifford, Boyd, Whiteford, and Mr Yorltc also appeared, and were warmly applauded, the ladies having what may bo assumed to be some little rembrance of Christmastide handed up to them. The De Velia Sisters gave a sflng and dance, which created a favourable impression; but though there is nothing objectionable in the words^ the effect is to convey an innuendo which is objectionable. The Wingate Sisters concluded the performance with a trapeze act, terminating a flight along a wire rope from the circle to the stage. The Faust Sisters are announced to appear on Boxing Night, and the services of Mr Arthur Hahn, a bass singer, have also been engaged. The company appear as usual this evening.
