The garrisons at De Aar and Hnnovcr have been strongly reinforced.

The raiders always retire when they encounter any opposition ; their main object is to obtain supplies.

(Received Dec. 24, at 0.25 a.m.) Martial law has been proclaimed in thfi following places in Cape Colony:—Britstown, Victoria West, Richmond, Hanover, Murrayberg, GraiTveinet, Cradnck, Larfca, Molteno, and will shortly be proclaimed at Worcester, Wellington, Sfellenbosch. A proclamation has been issued warning nil of the penalties for rebelling. Pre•vious offenders renewing assistance to the Boers will be. treated with exceptional severity.
