THE RAID ON CAPE COLONY.
APPREHENSIONS OF A DUTCH RISING.
LONDON, December 21,
(Received Dec. 22, at 0.25 a.m.)
It is reported that the first body of Boers who invaded Cape Colony crossed the Orange River at Rhenosteriioek, the Britisn pursuing them towards Sleynsburg. The second band crossed afc Sanddrift. The mounted troops sent are gradually surrounding both bauds. The railway is well guarded. Renter's Capetown correspondent states that it is estimated that 2000 Boers invaded Cape Colony. There is no fear of the result of the raid, but there are grave apprehensions lest Dutch sympathisers should join. Tire lack of drilled mounted troops is severely felt. The enormous waste of horses is inadequately appreciated hi England. A mixed farce of 1000 from Capetown has been despatched to the Orange River. The Boers are occupying the Colesberg district.
