A witness, who at the former investigation swore that he knew the prisoner | in Colchester in 1880 as Blatch, was tendered for cross-examination, but his testimony remained unshaken. Other evidence was called' for the purpose of combating the statements made on a previous occasion in regard to a visit made by the prisoner to a woman ■ living at Otaki, who is known to. have come from Colchester. A further remand" was eventually granted until next week. . . !
