CRICKET ON CHRISTMAS DAY.

TO THE EDITOR. I Snt,—l was very much surprised to notice in this morning's paper that tho dates for tho interm-ovincial cricket mate!! have been fixed for the 22nd, 24th, and Christmas Day. Although Presbyterians and Dissenters arc in the majority in this town, surely some consideration should bfl paid to the adherents of tlio two churches who have been brought , up to consider Christmas Day and Good Friday as holy days, as well as holidays. Could not the Council of Churches, who exercise sucli a beneficial influence upon tho morals of this community, take steps in the matter and intervene before it is Loo late. Further, I am strongly of the opinion that the Canterbury cricketers have not been con suited in the matter.—l am etc., Old JoiraiAJf
