SCHOOL VACATIONS.
THE WALKER STREET KINDER.
GARTEN
A large number of parents and friends assembled in the AValker street Mission Hall on Friday to witness the closing ceremony in connection with the Walker street Kindergarten. Among the ladies present were Mesdumes J. H. Hosking (president of the association), Edwards, J. Waddell Smith, G. L. Denniston, Dr Martin, .1. W. Jago, and J. F. Peake. The cliildren. dressed' in their best, wero mustered shortly after 1 ulf-past 10. and with Miss Peake as their leader they sang hymns, patriotic songs, and went through a number of mari'hes with (lags. Much credit is due to Miss Peake, who lias worked particularly hard in tiie interests of tin: kindergarten, and brought it to the high standard of efficiency which it has attained. Miss Pcako is also active in visiting the various homes in the vicinity, and impressing upon the parents the. necessity of (lie little mites being kept off the streets. Her efforts in that direction, it is pleasing to record, have been well rewarded, for there is now a good attendance— over double what it was last year. Miss J. Moodie has proved a capable assistant. Samples of the work done by the children were on view, and attracted much attention. The thanks of the committee arc due to the following for presents:—High street School (two books), Messrs D. M'l'licrson (sweets), K. Hudson, jun. (sweets), D. Benjamin and Co. (toys), Ahlfeld Bros, (toys), W. Bull (fruit), A. Wright (biscuits and lollies), and Mrs D. Davidson (toys). Thn children were addressed by Mr J. W. Jiigo, who announced that the vacation would extend to February 1.
