FORBURY SCHOOL BAZAAR.

The gymnasium hall connected with the Forbury School was packed last night on the occasion of the opening of a " rnz-s-Je-dazzle"— in other words, a. bazaar—which has been organised for the purpose of raising funds to more thoroughly equip the hall with, gymnastic appliances and to provide a piano for the school. The interior of the building was gaily decorated with flags, foliage, and flowers, and the various stalls wore heavily ir.den with the contributions of willing hands which have been working industriously for months past to assist towards the object in view. The articles consist of needlework of different kinds, cushions, ornaments, paintings, flowers, toys, and innumerable other things. The stalls and their attendants are as follows: —

The organiser of the bazaar was Mr H. M. Stewart; the secretary Mr D. Ritchie,. jun., the Decoration Committee Messrs Bond, Brown, Bnin, W. Ritchie, and D. Ritchie, sen., and the Musical Committee Messrs Maxwell, Burion Vickery, Misses Mnckie, Wilkinson, and Lawrence 'The " shooting at Kruger " arrangement is in the hands of Messrs Rowlands and S. Childs. „ , Mr II M. Stewart, who presided, called on Mr A. Morrison, M.H.R., to open the bazaar. Mr Morrison, who was heartily received, expressed his pleasure in bring called upon to declare the bazaar open. It was a duty his Excellency the Governor had been asked to perform, but" a letter had been received from his Excellency stating that his arrangements would not permit him to attend to perform the "function, and it had therefore devolved upon him (Mr Morrison) to fill his Excellency's place. Referring to the objects of tho bazaar, he said the district raised some £QOO a few years ago, which, with a subsidy of £150 from the Education Board, had enabled the committee to build the hall. They had never, however, been in a position to properly equip it. and one object <rf the bnzaiu was to raise funds to allow that to be done, and. i£ possible, procure a piano for the school. He complimented the ladies upon the excellent workmanship of the articles they had contributed to the various stalls, and, on behalf o( the committee, thanked the residents of the district and others for the generous manner in which they had responded to the call made upon them for subscriptions.—(Applause).

Early in the evening the Southern Banci I plnyocl some lively airs outside the building. The musical programme inside was as follows: Selections by Haig's orchestra; Highland fling, John and Allan M'KechuicfD. Macdonald, piper); vocal solo. Mr Neil Black; comic duct, Mr mid Miss Stubbs; comic song, Mr M'Connell.

The bazaar will remain open till "Wednesday night next, and each evening there will be an attractive musical programme.
