(Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, October 7. There has been heavy rain in the Pa« hiatua distriqt, and the rivers are in flood. Railway traffic is interrupted, and settlers had to shift their, stock to high ground.
CHRISTCHURCH, October 7.
About 8 o'clock last night a fire -broke out in Colomho street, Sydenham, in" tha store and stables owned'by Mr Gill, and; occupied by Mr William West. The buildings were completely, destroyed. '■'.-. , "' It is understood that 'the collector of customs will take proceedings ■■ against the captain of the schooner Glencairn, wrecked on the Ninety-mile Beach last week, for a: breach of the Merchant Seamen's Act for. having too large a proportion of boys in his crew.
