THE BURGHERS WAVERING.
LONDON, August 10. (Received August 11, at 9.22 a.m.) ■ General Buller's column, with a marching front extending for 20 miles, has reached Klippart's Drift. The bulk of the enemy are retreating, taking with them' six guns. . . ' There is a little skirmishing on the extreme right of the British.' A later report states that the Sfcanderton, burghers, who, composed the bulk of Botha's followers, have separated and gone westward. They are wavering in their determination to continue the struggle. August 11. (Received August 12, at 5.10 p.m.) General Buller has crossed the Vaal, and arrived on Goldihoek, on the Ermelo road. The enemy, under Commandant Botha, are retreating. CLOSING IN ON DE WET. LONDON, August 10. (Received August 11, at 9.22 a.m.) The bulk of De Wet's troops are at Buffelshoek, to the north-west of Potchefstroom. August 11. (■Received August 12, at 5.10 p.m.) General Methueii, pushing rapidly ahead, arrested General De Wet's march. General Kitchener is pressing De Wet's rear. THE ATTACK ON DE WET. PRETORIA, August 11. (Received August 13, at 0.40 a.m.) Lord Kitchener engaged General De Wet's rearguard- on Thursday afternoon, near Lindoguo. Simultaneously General Mcthuen's guns were heard six miles te the north-west. A VICTORIA CROSS HERO. (Received August 12, at 5.10 p.m.) Corporal F. Mackay, of the Gordon Highlanders, has been ■ awarded the Victoria Cross for valour at Crow's Nest Hill during the fighting round Johannesburg. A SOLDIERS' INSTITUTE. of Mrs C. S." Reid, Dunedin, died of enteric fever at Johannesburg on the Bth August. Captain Bourne (No. 1 company, third contingent), Timaru, and Lieutenant Cameron (Xo. 2 company, third contingent), of llarangiu, Wangamii, are prisoners of war at Nooitgedaeht, and reported in good health.
