ROYAL COLONIAL INSTITUTE.

ANNUAL CONVERSAZIONE.

(From Otjk Own Correspondents.)

LONDON, June 30.

Last Wednesday evening the usual annual conversazione of the Royal Colonial Institute was given with even more than the usual success. It took place, as in former years, in the Natural History Museum, South Kensington, where fully 2000 guests assembled between 9 and 12p.m., this being the largest attendance on record. Everything passed off to admiration. Two of London's best military bands discoursed pleasant music in different parts of the huge building, and refreshments were served in several rooms. Some of the arrangements, notably in respect of ladies' dressing rooms, were greatly improved as compared with former years. New Zealanders were present in large numbers. Mr and Mrs-Roiieston, Mr and Mrs Fergus, Mr Justice Denniston and Mrs Douniston, Mr and Mrs Oliver, Mr, Mrs, and Miss Tolhurst, and other prominent colonists now at Homo received hearty greetings from numbers of old friends. The complete list of New Zealand guests, so far as I have been able to compile it, was as follows: —Mr and Mrs George Beetham, Sir Walter Buller, Mr John Beaumont, Major-general E. T.
