RE THE CLYDE COLLIERIES COMPANY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —With reference to the above property now being offered to the public, I would ask your permission to make a few remarks on the report given by Mr Gray. Mr Gray, in referring to the Dairy Creek coalpit adjoining Xvitto and party's, pertinently says: — " This is only a pit in name, and can onlybo worked from Kitto and parly's pit. Now, this statement is entirely erroneous, and in justice to the proprietors of the Dairy Creek pit- I must flatly contradict Mr Gray. I have worked this nit as manager for over 12 mouths, during the"first 10 of which we supplied two of tho largest dredges on the river with coal—viz., the Earnscleugh Nos. 1 and 2. These companies only stopped taking coal because, having an interest in the Molyneux coalpit, they had a right lo support it. The depth I am working at at present is 60ft below the one now under flotation, and I fail to see how tho Dairy pit depends on Kitto and party's, seeing wo are much deeper and tho coal dipping inl<o lls —ul fact> we hold, in my opinion, the key to Kitto and party's pit, instead of the other way about, as stated in the prosueetus. I would have been pleased to have shown Mr Gray over our pit had he called on us, and I am certain that after a look round the workings he would have been convinced that we had " something more than a name."

In conclusion, I am prepared to state that with tho present plant at my command I could turn out at least 20 tons or more of coal per day—not only for one day, but for years— should the demand warrant it.—l am, etc., IIOBEBT RODERTSOX. Manager, Dairy Coalpit. Clyde, August 6.
