MINING.

The Secretary (Mr R. T. Wheeler, jun.) of the Blue Duck Gold Dredging Company (Limited) reports having received from the engineer the following:—The contract for machinery has been completed, and all has been forwarded by rail. The engine has just arrived ex Papanui. The boiler is exp-eeted in the Waimato, but no definite information regarding it has arrived. The -cartage has been delayed, and I have telegraphed to the stationmasters at Ranfurly and Wodderburn to sec how much is lying there, but have not received their replies. As I saw no chance of the machinery being all landed for some time, I delayed the tenders for erection of machinery, but they can be got in in a few days. It will only disappoint contractors if we cannot proceed with the work immediately. Tenders are opened, and it is of no use to go on with the work of erection -until the whole of the machinery is on the ground.

An extraordinary general meeting of the Fraser Flat Gold Dredging Company will be held on the 22nd inst., to consider, and, if thought advisable, pass the following resolutions:—"That the capital of the company bo increased to £20,000 by the creation of 7000 new shares of £1 each." " That the company purchase from the Upper Fraser Gold Dredging Company (Limited), all its real and personal property except cash in hand, in the bank, or moneys due for unpaid calls, qa the terms and conditions set out in «. certain agreement of sale, made between the Fraser Flat Gold Dredging Company (Limited), of the one part, and the Upper Fraser Gold Dredging Company (Limited), of the other part." " That clause 15 of the articles of association bo struck out and the following clause substituted: —'No business shall be transacted at ar.y general meeting unless a quorum is present at the commencement of business, and such quorum shall consist of seven members of the company.1 " We understand that the position is that the Fraser

Flat Company, being somewhat short of capital, instead of going to their shareholders and asking them to take upon themselves the providing of new capital, have arranged with the directors of the Upper Fraser Company, subject to the approval of their shareholders, to amalgamate the two claims, the option being given to the Upper Fraser Company's shareholders to take one share for every two they already hold in the Upper Fraser Company, in consideatrion of which the Upper Fraser Company transfer their freehold^ claim of 100 acres. The Dredgemaster of the Vincent wired yesterday that he has bottomed, with fair prospects. Shareholders in the Nevis Gold Dredging Company are requested to hand to the secretary the scrip for their shares for cancellation for which new scrip will be issued. The public are cautioned against' dealing with scrip for certain shares in the company. The annual general meeting of shareholders in the Moonlight Sluicing Company will be held on Wednesday, 29th inst. The following itern3 appeared in the last issue of the Cromwell Argus:—The Richards's Beach dredge is rapidly approaching completion. The gantry is nearly finished, the ladder is put together, and the elevator only needs to be put in position. The pump and countershaft are now in position.—The Meg and-Annie dredge had a trial run on Saturday la.st and everything worked smoothly. Messrs Morgan and Cable were the contractors for the putting on of the machinery. The dredge expects to commence operations this week.
