MEETINGS AND ENTERTAINMENTS.
The lodges Port Chalmers Marine, E.C, an* Cargill Kilwinning, S.E., gave a combined ball on Friday evening in the Garrison Hall, Port Chalmers. The interior of the building was beautifully decorated, and some 50 couples took part m the pleasures of the evening. Dancing1 was .carried on with great spirit to the excellent music of the Black-Family orchestra.''Light refreshments-were supplied' by Mr Moss,'and a very agreeable evening was spent, the committee being indefatigable m their efforts to entertain their guests. The annual ball of Lodge Celtic was held in the Agricultural Hall on Friday evening There was a large attendance, fully 70 couples occupying the floor. The hall was tastefully decorated with flags and Masonic mottoes; while the stage, which was arranged- as a drawing room, reflected great credit on those-who had the management of affairs. His Worship iue .Alayor, who was present, was welcomed by Bro. John Craig, S.W., on behalf of Lodge Celtic. Mr Chisholm, in his usual ■ happy ; manner, thanked the lodge for the kind invita- • •tion sent to him, and stated that he was at all ■ times only too pleased to ittend such func- ' tions when convenient, and he trusted the time was not far distant when he. would' have the • pleasure of becoming a member of the craft. J-he ball, which was a most enjoyable one; terminated a little after 2.a.m. First-class music . was supplied by Hamann's Band; whilst the' catering-, in charge of Mr J. Kroon, was every- ~ thing that could be desired. Messrs M'Peok, Jacobson, Smeaton, and M'Gregor, as M.C.'s, . did their best .to make, this one of the, most successful gatherings ever held in connection ' with the lodge. The monthly concert of the Alliance Lodga of Good Templars was held on Wednesday in the Friendly Societies' Hall; South Dunedin, ' when thera was a good attendance. The chair ' was taken by the R-ev. P. J. Cossuin, supported by the.C.T. and L.D, ot the lodge. Miss Tuch presided at the piano, and opened the concert. Vocal items were rendered by Mr J. O'Connell, jun. (encored), Mr Pea-rce, Mr A. Davie (encored), Mr H. Stubbs (encored), Mr Jarvis, ' and Master Osborne, who repeated the number for which hi? gained the prize at the recent competition in the Juvenile Temple; Mrs' Kitto, Miss Creagk, Miss Anderson, and Miss Stubbs also sang; and the recitations and readings given by Mrs W. J. Thomas and Mr Wilson were most enjoyable. During the evening a temperance address was given by the JRev. Bro. Cossuin. A vote of thanks was carried,on the motion of Bro. Stubbs, L.D., to the chairman, pianist, and the performers.
