species with white bones go under the name o.f butter fish in Now Zealand, Long Supi'krikg Ratepayer objects to the proposal to increase the salary of Inspector Donaldson from £150 to £175 per annum, although he admits that the officer in ques- ■ tion has been more active than others that held the appointment. It would be interesting to know the cost of inspection for the last six months, as inspectors of some kind or another are to be seen at the corners of every street. "Long Suffering Ratepayer" would like to remind councillors that they are appointed to look after and conserve the interests of the ratepayers, not to squander away their moneys as it appears to him they are doing. " I see it is proposed to take another poll on the water question. Well, we will see how the cat jumps." ' Long Suffering Ratepayer" proposes to give a resume of the appointments made by the council, together with the salaries paid, and how they were arrived at and altered to, suit from time to time.
